Ab Khud Kuch Karna Parega

I recently listened to the new Strings/Atif Aslam Song: Ab Khud Kuch Karna Parega. Shook up a lot of emotions inside me. Just the line: Ab Khud Kuch Karna Parega. The independence attached to it. The despair and disappointment in this country’s politicians and people. Broken expectations and shattered hopes. The declaration of us, the youth, taking the responsibility. The announcement that yes, we are here to hold this country up with our hands and take it Somewhere.

WE have to do something. We -the youth of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. You, me, the entire nation’s youth –we are in great debt. Debt that we have to pay back to our country but we never will be able to get rid of completely. Its not only the money that we mud, or the material things that this country has given us. It’s everything. From the indentity “Pakistani” to the independence to walk on the streets, from the feeling of connection to every actual molecule of air that we breathe in. Every drop of rain that we enjoy, every fragrant flower which refreshes our mind and soul. We owe our motherland, our founders and our forefathers. People who lost their everything – including life itself- for this nation.

Sad fact of life here is that most of us aren’t really doing anything. We have been crippled by ourselves and have our consciences brutally murdered by our own hands. Every year in the eighth month, our little patriotism does try to open its eyes, but after decorating our houses with green color and holding functions and giving long boring speeches about what our forefathers went through, all those hardships to get us this piece of land, we tuck our tiny little sense of connection with this country somewhere deep down as we return to our soulless normal life.

What happened to us? Why are we like this? Why do we not take a step forward? Why, all the time, do we need some disaster to unite us? Why do we open our eyes only after someone has to sacrifice his life? Why do we get violent at little things and burn down the buildings? In everything, we only harm our country and nothing else! Over the years, we’ve learnt to blame. Of all the situations we’ve been through, all the depression and and pain and agony – everything has taught us to be very good at the blame game. We blame other nations for our conditions, we blame our politicians for our conditions. Have we ever noticed how much harm are WE causing Pakistan? Even by wasting our time uselessly on internet, watching TV, Indian Serials, Movies -we are harming our country in ways that we haven’t noticed. HOW? I leave it to you, ponder and proclaim.

Time is slipping by.. 1947-2010, we have wasted 63 years, sixty-precious-three years. It’s about time you and I both –we take a piece of paper, pull out a pen and write: I'm the guardian angel of pakistan, in two weeks, i can... and release our inhibitions. Write with our instincts as our guides. Make a list of the things you can do in two weeks that can create a better change in Pakistan.

Pakistan is in deserve need of a guardian angel. Its time we spread our wings and hide our beloved country from all the troubles. Lets john hands to create a wall strong enough that even a toofan-e-Nooh can't shake its pillars!

P.S. actually, comment below. Complete this sentence: I'm the guardian angel of pakistan, in two weeks, i can...
